.. I hope I remembered the author's name properly.
Usually I think of masks as negative things, something artificial or something that I hide behind. Here they might be considered as positive things, or is the speaker contrasting masks to songs?

Glad you liked it - he doesn't have a lot of cred these days, but he did write some great lyrics. 'Vienna' is another favourite of mine. Sure I've posted it somewhere.
